Digital Barometer Indoor Weather Stations
Make one of these stylish weather instruments a part of your home electronics ensemble. Some of these instruments can be attached to your computer to display weather data on your PC or your newer televisions. Barometers measure air pressure and pressure trend. There are two basic types of barometers...analog barometers which use springs and mechanical pointers to display air pressure on a dial face and digital barometers which use a pressure semiconductor to display air pressure and trend on an LCD (or LED) display.
Analog barometers usually come as part of a 3 dial indoor weather station with instruments measuring indoor air temperature, indoor relative humidity and air pressure (indoor and outdoor). Most mechanical barometers have a top end altitude restriction between 5000 and 10,000 feet. Check the specs before you buy in Denver or Reno.
A unique form of analog barometers is known as the storm glass or Nantucket barometer which uses a water glass with a tube to display air pressure.
Digital barometers are much more accurate than mechanical or analog barometers. These newer barometers use a pressure semiconductor to show air pressure and trend. Most digital barometers are part of a more detailed indoor wireless weather station which measures weather data from indoor temperature, outdoor temperature, dew point, heat index, wind speed, wind direction and more. Digital barometers do not have high altitude restrictions.
